One of the big bonuses of training with Checkmat and living close to the tournament venues. Is we get guests from time to time. It just happened to be that this group of guest were really big guests. World Champion and founding member of Checkmat, Rodrigo Cavaca, came through with his team for a light roll on the Friday night before they competed. But their light roll is me fending for my life! Awesome training with some really talented and nice guys.
Its been 3 weeks of being on the road and 2 weeks since I have seen my home mat. It feels really good to be home even if its for just a short period of time. Its great to roll with people I don’t normally train with to gain perspective on what I need to work on. But home is where the heart is. Looking forward to being home for the majority of next month.
For the last 2 weeks I have been up in NorCal for work. Sometimes it sucks to travel and be away from home. But getting the opportunity to see my friends is a definite benefit. I feel bad that I don’t get to see everyone (Sorry Al and Peter). But work can get hectic and leaves me with little time to chill.
I did get to see my buddy and coach Leandro. He has since moved to San Jose to head up the program at AKA. Got some good rolls in this week and even got to have a nice candle lit dinner with him. Hopefully I can make it back up here sooner than later.
