Stuff Every Guy Needs To Have

Image

Every man should own at least a basic set of tools. I probably take owning tools to the extreme, but I am never more frustrated than when I am trying to work on a project or my car at home and I don’t have access to my tools. I am sure not everyone cares to be so mechanically inclined. But don’t be the annoying guy that has to constantly borrow tools. (that means don’t ask me to borrow mine)

Sears is pretty affordable. But if you have to have the best, buy Snapon.  Thank you Ken Takahashi for fueling my addiction for tools.

Mat time

Image

Sometimes we take for granted our time on the mat. There are the days where I feel like I should just stay home or stay in the hotel and veg out. But after getting smashed for the hour and half and sitting around with my friends, I realize that why I always drag myself to the academy.  Good vibes, good rolls and even better friends!

Pan Ams 2012

One of the big bonuses of training with Checkmat and living close to the tournament venues. Is we get guests from time to time. It just happened to be that this group of guest were really big guests.  World Champion and founding member of Checkmat, Rodrigo Cavaca, came through with his team for a light roll on the Friday night before they competed. But their light roll is me fending for my life! Awesome training with some really talented and nice guys.

Coming Home

image

Its been 3 weeks of being on the road and 2 weeks since I have seen my home mat. It feels really good to be home even if its for just a short period of time. Its great to roll with people I don’t normally train with to gain perspective on what I need to work on. But home is where the heart is. Looking forward to being home for the majority of next month.

Hanging around Norcal

20120322-172445.jpg

For the last 2 weeks I have been up in NorCal for work. Sometimes it sucks to travel and be away from home. But getting the opportunity to see my friends is a definite benefit. I feel bad that I don’t get to see everyone (Sorry Al and Peter). But work can get hectic and leaves me with little time to chill.

I did get to see my buddy and coach Leandro. He has since moved to San Jose to head up the program at AKA. Got some good rolls in this week and even got to have a nice candle lit dinner with him. Hopefully I can make it back up here sooner than later.

Packing

Getting ready to go on yet another trip. It dawn upon me what happened on my last trip. I’ll never forget to pack my gi, but I will end up forgetting something like underwear. I guess I have my priorities in line.

Sunday Training

Got some good training in with some old friends. Its been a little challenging finding a place and a time we can all meet up. But with Bao opening up Rounders, we all have a place we can hang out at and get a roll in.
