Baseball and life

I have been really neglecting my blog lately.  Things seem to be so hectic lately with trying to do school and work.  What really jacked me was that I had deadlines and midterms all the same time the World Baseball Classic was going on.  Since I have been trying to follow sports, I was really looking forward to this year’s tournament.  Ever since they announced the teams, I have been talking about it with, not only my boss(Japan fan), but my buddy Jeff and Eddie as well(Korea fans).

We lucked out as Hankook tires, who is Eddie’s major sponsor, just so happened to be a major sponsor for the tournament.  Thanks to the generosity of Eddie and Paul at Hankook, we got to attend some of the games with comped tickets.  No matter where the seats are, its fun to got to a ball game.  But these seats were super sick!  For the game at Petco, we were right behind the Korea dugout.  For the Japan vs US game, we got logo box seats(second tier, between 3rd and home)

Since I couldn’t say no to the tickets, meant I had to suffer extra in my studying and work.  Ah well its was all worth it. Lets hope once the season starts, I don’t get dragged down watching the games.

Resolution

Most people make resolutions during new years. But it dawned upon me there are a couple things that I wanted to do this year. I know its way past new years, but I thought to myself the other day that I am going really make an effort to keep up with sports more than I have. I really am going to make an effort to:

1 Get back to training: injury and all. Whether I get surgery or not, going to start training again.

2 Keep up with MLB: I don’t really care for traditional sports except for baseball. I am going to try and make an effort to keep up with whats going on. I don’t have tv in my room, so this makes it really hard to watch sport center.

3 Keep up with F1: Again tough when you don’t have a TV in your room, but I want to know what the hell is going on with real motorsports.

I know with all the other time wasting crap that I do, its no easy task. But lets see how long I can try and keep up.

No updates

Its been a while since I have updated this thing. Its seems like I go through phases where I am enthusiastic about updating my blog and periods where I could care less. Since I started going to school, life has been pretty uneventful. I basically do the same thing week in and week out. Hang out with friends, go to school and eat.

With being injured and not having a gym to go to currently, I wanted to do something active.  When I used to live in Japan, we would go to the batting cages atleast once a week, if not more.  The last time I was there, I told myself I would try to go to the ones around my house. A couple weeks ago, I was having lunch with my buddy James and asked him if he wanted slug some balls. I suckered him into buying batting gloves and we went at it. I liked it so much I went out and bought a bat.  Now I find myself stopping by anywhere that has a batting cage and hitting a couple rounds.

This thing is super non forgiving. You hit it any where outside of the sweet spot, it will let you know. Try hitting it without gloves on, you are asking for trouble. But I think my batting is improving with every swing. I started choking up a little more on the bat and seem make much better contact. I just stepped up from hitting at little league 50mph(81km/h) to 60mph(97km/h).  I know at my age I should be playing golf, but fuck it. I actually leave the cages satisfied instead of leaving the driving range frustrated.
